Service Description:
The school nursing service in the East Riding is available to all children of statutory school age. If your child is well we may not contact you, but we are available to children, young people and their family’s at any time.
The School Nursing Team assess, protect and promote the health and wellbeing of all children. Each area locality has a school nursing team that deliver care to pupils in a group of schools. The team is made up of specialist practitioners, who all hold specific school nursing qualifications, registered nurses and health care assistants. We work along with other professionals in schools and in the community. We offer support to individuals and groups of young people, parents and carers in a variety of settings working to help each child fulfil their potential.
The team delivers several national programmes including immunisations in schools, the National Child Measurement Programme(NCMP), and the Healthy Child Programme (HCP).
The Special Schools Nursing Team delivers the same public health focused care to children and young people in special schools.
While we are not based in schools, we do visit them and are in regular contact. You can reach your school nurse through your school who will pass on a message for you or by ringing the teams directly.
